Kurt Lieberman
Kurt Lieberman grew up in Eastern NC and much of his childhood was spent in the woods, fishing, jumping into, boating, or swimming on the Tar River. In the early 90’s, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corp. Being a Marine provided Kurt the opportunity to run around the outdoors, learn more about firearms, tactical operations, and provided him the educational opportunities to help launch his civilian career. After the Marine Corps, Kurt started his career in information technology sales which provided an opportunity to serve the country through some of the largest tech companies in the world. Kurt spent most of his career advising and selling technology solutions to Federal, State, & Local governments to help them build the most efficient governments possible. Kurt worked for Microsoft, Oracle, Dell, Polycom, US Postal Service, and Sprint throughout his 24-year career.
After 24+ years in technology Kurt knew he was changing, he knew the industry was changing, he knew the company he was working for was changing, and one early morning in a hotel room in DC in 2016, Tar River Arms (TRA) was born. Kurt decided to start TRA out of his house as a home-based FFL. His idea was simple, he was going to sell online, he was going to market directly to his customer base, and his mission was clear- TRA is going to provide Great Products, Great Prices, and Great Service. Within in two years the business grew, and the mission changed. Kurt decided to leave Microsoft and open a TRA store front in Wake Forest NC which is still in operation today. It is through these life experiences, his love of the industry, his desire to modernize the industry, and the 5 years of customer request to open an indoor range in the area, that he is proud to open Youngsville Gun Club & Range.
Ivy Lieberman
With a background in design and construction, Ivy was a natural fit to help design and decorate the range from the ground up. She earned her B.A. degree in Communications/Public Relations and English from East Carolina University and spent many years as a Stay-at-Home Mom.
Both of her children are now officially adults and YGC and our sister store, Tar River Arms, have her utmost attention. In addition to helping to manage the range, she is responsible for Community Outreach, Sponsorships, and Merchandising, as well as assisting with events and our social media platforms. She is excited to bring a “softer side” to the industry and help connect people with shooting who are unfamiliar with the sport and may be a little timid.
Ivy has been happily married to her husband, Kurt, since 1999 and they have two sons, Ben, a current Marine, and Gabe, who attends Wake Tech and does all of our laser engraving. Her family will always be her number one priority, but she also enjoys giving back to the community, spending time with friends, traveling, relaxing at her beach house, walking/hiking, and concocting fancy cocktails.
